Motivation Monday- The Gratitude Edition

Happy Thanksgiving week Chicadelphians! I thought for this Motivation Monday post, we could use a little reminder of the true meaning of the holiday.

Gratitude. It's so easy to forget all of the good things we have in our lives when we're constantly focused on the future and our long list of "wants". I am guilty of this as well, but reading these inspirational words has me thinking about all of the amazing people and things in my life. Some days, all I can think about is how I wish our lives were better: I wish my husband had a job (he's unemployed but currently looking), I wish we had our own home, had a baby by now, and on and on. I used to let it get to me so badly I couldn't get out of bed in the morning. I needed a spiritual kick in the head and one day I got one. I came to the realization that some things ARE out of our control and are being determined by a higher power (I call he/she/it God, but use whatever name you wish). Things are unfolding in a divine order for us, and however that goes down, I have to have faith that it will be better than our feeble human minds could have ever imagined. Training our brains to think this way is a lifelong process, but I think I am starting to get the hang of it :)

What am I grateful for right now? Plenty! A loving, faithful, kindhearted, amazing husband, a strong marriage with him despite all we have been through, my wonderful, loving, supportive parents and in-laws, our families, our friends, our good health, our apartment (keeping a roof over our heads), that we are able to eat/afford to eat healthy, delicious food, still be able to go on date nights once in awhile, the job I do have, for unemployment. You get the idea. Oh wait, the dogs. Canine companionship from my parents dog and my in-laws dog is not to be underestimated. When we are feeling down, a romp with the pups always puts a smile on our faces.

See? Lots to be thankful for. Our lives are not perfect and chances are, yours aren't either. I hope this post has you taking stock of all of the things you have to be grateful for and I am sure its more than you realize.

With that being said, I want to wish all of you a healthy, happy Thanksgiving with your families and friends. Stay safe and eat lots of delicious turkey and all of the trimmings :) I am taking a break from posting this week to spend time with the peeps I love, but I will be back in action next week! Happy Thanksgiving!
