Taking Time to Relax...

Christmas is less than a week away.  Everyone is beyond stressed and anxious getting their holiday meals planned, prepped, finishing last minute shopping, wrapping presents, baking.  What I find most helpful is taking some time out of the holiday rush to relax with a nice cup of tea.

I love coffee, hot chocolate, lattes you name it! There’s something about tea that is especially soothing when you’re stressed or anxious.  So when I received samples of David’s Teas to try, I knew this was the perfect time of year to give them a test!

A David’s Tea store just opened recently in the King of Prussia mall and I was invited to the opening but unfortunately couldn’t attend- I had gotten sick that day! It was so sweet to receive a care package in the mail so I could still try out their products. I received a Nordic Mug that comes with a lid and a stainless steel infuser as well as their Winter Collection of teas to try. The Winter Collection came with 5 teas (Apple Custard, Bubbie’s Baklava, Vanilla Chai, Sugar Plum Forest and Cocomint Cream) and 20 filters. Each tea packet contains enough leaves for at least 2 cups of tea I found.

The teas come in re-sealable pouches, so you pour what you need into a filter, place the filter in the infuser and pour boiling water into the infuser/mug. Let steep as desired depending on your preference of strength.  Super quick and easy to make a delicious, fresh cup of tea.

I loved all of the flavors but I was definitely partial to the Apple Custard, Sugar Plum Forest and the Vanilla Chai (my fave!).  David’s Tea impressed me. I definitely will be trying more of their flavors!
David’s Tea offers over 150 teas and a huge selection of gifts tea-making accessories; it’s not too late to pick up a gift for the holidays!

I was sent product samples to try from David’s Tea. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Dreaming of Red...

Red is one of those colors that I thought I couldn’t wear. In fact, I remember a friend telling me that I looked terrible in red when I was in high school (her words: “You look like an M&M in red.” How sweet.)  So naturally, as a teenage girl would, I believed her and carried that with me all the way through adulthood. Now I realize how silly that seems and it wasn’t up until a few years ago that I tried on red lipstick. And I loved it! It was a liberating feeling. I started to incorporate more red items into my wardrobe and it’s become one of my go-to colors, right up there with my beloved pink! Naturally as the holidays approach, I find myself drawn to anything and everything red, from lips, to heels, dresses and of course my favorite peppermint bark from Williams & Sonoma (so delish!). Do you dare to wear red?

Celebrate Shelter Pets Day

I've never had a pet. From the time I was a little girl, I always wanted a dog. I begged and pleaded pretty much up until my adult life for a dog. Nada. Wasn't happening.

Then low and behold, I move out of the house and get married, then my parents get a dog. I'd been replaced!! Well, no, I gained a fur brother in reality (see Casey the shih tzu in previous posts).

Since hubby and I are renting, we're not allowed to have pets but we know that when we have a home of our own we definitely want to adopt a shelter dog. So many sweet animals without homes, I wish I could find homes for all of them.

If you're considering a pet as a holiday gift, I encourage you to consider adopting a shelter pet.

December 2nd is the fifth annual Celebrate Shelter Pets Day, a special day to bring awareness to all of the shelter animals who are so patiently waiting for their furever family to come along and adopt them.

Of all the dogs in American homes, only 29% were adopted from a shelter or rescue. Each year approximately 3-4 million pets are adopted, but 2.7 million still lose their lives each year for lack of a home.

Seventeen million people will acquire a pet within the next year. The Shelter Pet Project, a collaborative effort between The Humane Society of the United States, Maddie’s Fund® and the Ad Council, hopes to encourage these prospective pet owners to adopt shelter and rescue pets.

Here are some pawsome shelter pets:

Did you adopt/rescue your dog? Share a photo of your pet on social media using #shelterpetlove to encourage your friends to visit to learn more about pet adoption. By sharing how your shelter pet enhances your life, you can show people who may be hesitant to pick a shelter pet just how rewarding it is to adopt.

5 Amazing Things About Adopt US Kids

During the holidays it’s so easy to get caught up in the, shall we say, more materialistic side of things. Rushing around looking for the perfect gifts, getting annoyed by traffic and lines and getting very stressed out trying to create the perfect everything. I invite you to take a moment to step back and think about those who may not be so fortunate. My mind goes to the children in the US who are patiently waiting to find their forever family.

Adopt US Kids has recently released brand new PSA’s to encourage the adoption of children from foster care with an emphasis on the importance of keeping siblings together. If you’re not familiar with Adopt US Kids, let me introduce you via 5 Facts About Adopt US Kids:
1. Since the launch of the campaign in 2004, more than 22,000 children who were once photo-listed on the AdoptUSKids website are now with their adoptive families.
2.  Over 35,000 families have registered to adopt through AdoptUSKids.
3. There are currently 402,000 children in the foster care system in the United States.
4. Nearly 102,000 children (under 18 years of age) are waiting for adoption.
5. Approximately 23% of children and youth actively photolisted on the AdoptUSKids website and waiting for placement in adoptive homes were registered with one or more siblings.

With these sobering statistics in mind, I invite you to view the PSA’s and if you know of anyone looking to adopt, please let them know about and to visit the campaign’s communities on Facebook and Twitter.

Dark Lips for Holiday...

While I usually sport a pink or nude lip color on a day-to-day basis, over the past year I have started to embrace more color.  Around this time of year, I start to crave rich reds, brilliant bordeauxs and of course, a pop of pink!

Dark lip shades are not to be feared and can be quite a liberating break from the norm. Below are some of my tips to prep your lips and some of my favorite shades for the season. Enjoy!
Exfoliate your lips with a good sugar scrub (I love Fresh’s!) and treat with a soothing lip balm. Blot lips.

Secret tip: I dab on a bit of liquid concealer to cancel out my natural lip color. Why? Because cancelling out your natural lip shade will show the true color of the lip color you’re going to apply, so your results will be the exact color shown in the tube. Pretty cool huh?! Line lips with liner of your choice. You could match the lipstick color or go for a nude.  I usually do a nude.

Apply color with brush or straight from the tube. Smile gorgeous!
